The First Continental Congress
- In 1774, 50 leaders from all the colonies except one met in Philadelphia
- Most people at the meeting thought of themselves as citizens of the colonies they were from, but a Virginian named Patrick Henry pushed them to come together as Americans
- The delegates at the meeting sent a message to King George telling him to recognize their rights, and set up a boycott of British goods until the Intolerable Acts were removed
- They agreed to have another meeting if the boycott did not work
